Jerrard B. Gaertner

Jerrard Gaertner is Principal Researcher at BizCom Group Inc., an artificial intelligence governance and monitoring firm specializing in ISO 42001 frameworks. His work focuses on risk classifications for large language models, behavioural protocols for AI systems and emerging regulatory frameworks addressing psychographic and societal risks.

Gaertner is a part-time professor of computer science, ethics, and law at Durham College in Oshawa, Ontario. He previously taught at McGill University, Toronto Metropolitan University (Ted Rogers School of Business) and the University of Toronto.

His professional expertise includes computer security, technology governance, system assurance and certification, AI risk management, behavioural protocols, privacy protection and expert witness testimony.

Earlier in his career, Gaertner held national responsibility for systems assurance and computer audit activities at a global accounting firm and later led the technology risk management practice at another. From 2002 to 2024, he served as a Licensed Insolvency Trustee and an Officer of the Court in Ontario.

Gaertner also developed and led the University of Toronto Certificate Program in Enterprise Data Analytics at the School of Continuing Studies from 2013 to 2022. During that time, he also operated a consultancy focused on data analytics and predictive models.

He has served on the board of the Association of Certified Forensic Investigators and the Ontario Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals and is the author of three legal reference books published by Carswell Thompson. 

He is a past president of the Canadian Information Processing Society, Ontario and a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
